Yo, degrees in classical performance and music composition (basically a degree in western music theory), worked as a freelancer/touring musician/ for about 7 years before changing careers. Music is now my "serious" hobby, but I have mad respect and empathy for those still making their living in the arts. This shit sucks.
Not quite, but close! It's tuned like a lute, but transposed down a fourth. From lowest to highest, the notes are A-D-G-C-E-A-D. Only some bass viols have the low A string, most just have 6 starting from D.
The Vince Guaraldi Trio one? Because that's the only Christmas album I can actually come back to and enjoy every year.
i..... bought a bass today. my first instrument was a banjo, I've only been playing that for like 6 months and I'm still terrible but it's a lot of fun! woo
my friend bought me a banjo half as a meme cuz hes a lovely person and cuz i do like folk punk but its awesome its so much fun
i also got it signed by AJJ lmao
four. its the sterling sub ray4
oh i thought this was a reply to the bass. the banjo is a 5 string washburn but it might be a knockoff tbh lmao. i cant find any info on it at all
after some digging i found the resonator is in fact epiphone. that's what was throwing me off the whole time, it has an engraved graphic on the back that I couldn't find at all. must be an aftermarket resonator i guess
oh wow, my girlfriend is about to pull the trigger on a sterling ray4 for her first bass. you like it so far?
ah sorry i dont physically have it yet! i just really like the sound and ive heard good things. a really good bassist friend of mine loves his
I try sometimes
I have a bunch of project scraps, mostly from FL studio, but nothing I'd consider finished or fit to share outside of seeking constructive criticism
my interest in music theory is partly related to my autism and anxiety; I'm fascinated by odd meters, and counting them in my head helps me cope when I'm feeling overwhelmed, it occupies me and puts me in a kind of meditative trance (the Morse rhythm from Rush's YYZ is one of my favorites to use)
especially love odd meters with an out-of-phase swing rhythm, where the on- and off-beat of the swing shifts between measures
I took a 100 level music theory for non-majors class a few years ago, and it was pretty enlightening for me even if it was just skimming the basics
Its been awhile but FL used to be my primary DAW, so if you need tips feel free to ask. Music is a journey, so dont feel bad if it takes awhile. Im no expert or anything, but I can say that you can definitely improve in leaps and bounds if you put your mind to it. Even if you feel like something you made is utter garbage, there was still value in making it. Any song, good or bad, is a learning experience. As long as you dont forget that, youll be fine
I've written rap lyrics for about 10 years now, but never published anything. Originally it was heavily political, nowaday more philosophical stuff and my observations about becoming adult in fucked up world. Lyrics have always been my favourite part of any music, and I like to play with words and come up with all kinds of verbal gimmicks and tricks
I have no formal music education, Reaper, and a good computer. I try to put as much time into it as I can before santa's alien theory drags me down.
25 years of piano/keyboards, an out-of-hand synth collecting hobby, multiple bands going on (although kind of in a rut due to COVID). Started learning violin and classical voice a couple of years ago. Yeah I work in IT, how could you tell?
Bachelor of Music. Always enjoy learning more about world music tho. We should have a c/musictheory
yep music is life; something my band released this year: (link removed)
the pandemic has been tough though, and now I really wonder if live music is just donezo
thanks, and yeah I'm just doubting even a house show would be possible for a solid year, it may depend on the number of covid cases we see
like I probably won't even want to play for the next year to be safe, the only thing I can think of doing is releasing music online
this is really fucking good dude. shoegaze melody's echo chamber dreamy groove vibes. great bass too.
ah I've heard a bit by them, they're cool; and thanks, much appreciated ✌️
Im like 80% of the way to starting one of those shitty one man black metal projects. I know nothing of music theory so all riffs / progressions are just trial & error.
Also recording drums is fucking hard >:(
Seriously. Drum recording is hard. What is worse is playing them for me at least lol.
