And why is it Future Nostalgia?
Seriously though what is everyone's favorite that came out this year?
It's Charli, baby
Cannot get enough of that album. Party 4 U will live in my head on repeat forever.
Runners up would be Visions of Bodies Being Burned - .clipping and Wake of a Nation - Zeal & Ardor.
Honestly didn't listen to too many albums this year.
K.G. by King Gizzard sound so fresh and new and made me happy in a way almost nothing since quarantine began has, so that might be my favourite. Ka never misses, and his Descendants of Cain is a masterpiece. Global Control / Invisible Invasion by Ammar 808 has this driving techno-dystopian drive that's intoxicating. This Place Sucks Ass by PUP is, like all PUP, delightfully energetic. Somebody already mentioned Charli, but 100 gecs Tree of Clues deserves a shoutout as well. As much as I hate her personally, Grimes' Miss Anthropocene is addictive. 2017-2019 by Against All Logic isn't as great as their first album, but still slaps. A lot of great music that came out this year, all things considered.
Feels like I've lost my passion for music. I don't remember the last time I was excited for an album to be released. Sometimes people will send me music they like and I'll listen to it and think "Oh this sounds good", but it never comes with a desire to listen to it more, or to check out that artist's other work. Sorry for despairposting, it just sort of occurred to me when I read the question.
Have you listened to Ali Farka Touré? The guy is a gateway drug to African music. I think most of the music made in Africa (particularly Mali) has been light years ahead of anything else for decades. The first song of his I ever heard was “Karaw” on Festival in the Desert.
Loved purgatory & live on red barn radio. Didn't really love country squire, but no idea how I missed his new album. I'll have to give it a go today.
I didn't find anything mindblowing, but I liked Sufjan's The Ascension, Fiona Apple's Fetch the Bolt Cutters, Four Tet's Sixteen Oceans, and Moses Sumney's græ
Welcome to Hard Times by Charley Crockett.
He is from my old stomping grounds. Lap steel, fiddle, sad lyrics. My kinda country music.
Dream Land, Glass Animals. Many a game of disk golf played vibing to this
I’m really partial to Rat F!nk’s EP A-C-A-B. The artist posted it on here. Super cool dude.
If it has to be an album, I’ll pick The Beths’ Jump Rope Gazers.
dug the big projects from rina, yves tumor, arca, hmltd, shygirl, dj sabrina, AAL. also the clams casino, uh, retrospective album or w/e.
