Nothing super dramatic, it all centers on such a dumb, petty thing.
So I got a verbal warning today and a threat of a write up for chronic lateness (Usually around 5 minutes late), and I accept responsibility for that and genuinely want to try and do better starting next shift, but there's a potential problem:
We use these 2 iPads on the wall (Right next to the boss' desk in full view, where he usually is) to sign in at the beginning of our shift, but they're both about 3 minutes fast.
And during his lecture, he seemed to indicate that, to him/the company, the iPad time supercedes the actual time despite it being objectively incorrect.
So even if I sign in on the dot of when I'm supposed to be there (Let's say 10:00AM), the iPad clock will still say I'm 3 minutes late (10:03AM) even though I'm not. So I'm concerned that next shift my boss will see this, give me shit for being "late" and go through with his threat.
Straight up: Even though it's "just" 3 minutes, I'm not willing to adjust my work preparation/travel schedule around this false magical 3-minutes-fast time that only my employer follows, because I shouldn't have to. It's fuckin' stupid and illogical.
I can't believe I have to say this, but the actual legal time should be what matters, not this bullshit they literally just made up.
If my shift was scheduled to start at 9:57AM, that would be a different story, but it isn't.
I guess we'll see what happens...
Prep time and travel time should also be considered time spent working.
It really fuckin' should. I spend an hour and a half on that shit.
I think so, yes, so I'll give em' that much.
I still disapprove despite that though, it overcomplicates things and should just be the actual times for both.
I honestly think they might just be too lazy/stupid to readjust the iPad's clock.
God, that might be what they're trying to do.
Well I'll tell you right now that if they try to get on my ass for being "late", I'm not taking that shit sitting down and will straight up argue with his ass if necessary.
Man it sucks that companies are this hard-ass about time. Like, why can't there be a 5-10 minute grace period where you're allowed to come in? Even unis have that for lectures (unofficially) and exams.
So can you leave work 3 mins early at the end of the day, or will they shit a brick if you try to?
Show up 10-20 minutes early and clock in when you get there. Act genuinely surprised if they give you shit for it. Time is fungible but neither of you are ever getting any time back so it's not worth their time bitching about it.
