New simpsons episodes are so bad they make the good seasons worse.

Almost like capitalism takes art and turns it into commodities shit

Straight up! The golden era of Simpsons (S2-8 or 9 depending on who you ask) is genuinely some of the best network television ever. Insanely consistent without a dud episode in sight, tons of all-time-great episodes in that era, changed the game in television in general and forced a radical shift across the board and got massive ratings, I don't know what else you could want out of a series of its kind.

Yet people forget that and tie it to just how AWFUL the new stuff is, it bogs down just how good the past stuff was. Could you imagine if after S8 they said "Fuck it, we're ending this show with a movie", basically doing The Simpsons Movie over 10 years sooner? Could you imagine the blowout success and the writing quality coming together for a massive 2 hour series finale? Good god it would've been on the level of Star Wars merchandise but they waited too long and South Park/Family Guy out-edged them so The Simpsons outlived its usefulness in that regard. Now its just "The show Christian moms let their kids watch because Adult Swim is too spooky" and I say this from experience.

I remember being at my grandparents' house for Xmas and we kids were allowed control over the TV while the adults were on the patio & the unrelated "cousins" who were brought up really Christian wouldn't let me turn the channel (even though we were unsupervised) to the Simpsons because their parents told them it was "of the Devil"

I'm talking an experience I had in the early 2010s over at a friends house. No Adult Swim but shitty ass Simpsons? That was allowed. If you were lucky, Fox or one of their affiliates would be rerunning an old episode alongside a new one but that's it. I was as mad as hell because [adult swim] was and still is the shit, at least once you wade through the Fox reruns early on.

Squidbillies & Boondocks & T&EASGJ! & Samurai Jack carrying the weight of the entire country's worthwhile TV output

Don't forget Primal, Joe Pera Talks With You (Definitely my recent favorite. An actually wholesome [as] show is a welcome addition in times like this), Eric Andre, Black Jesus, Black Dynamite, ATHF and a bunch more. If it weren't for the shit Fox reruns it'd be the most experimental shit on television even if it can be hit or miss.

If this joke were made 25 years ago the roles would have been reversed.

Lisa is a vegetarian without being anticapitalist, is a "free Tibet" Buddhist and a future war criminal. She was cancelled long ago.

Most of them were pre season 10. I think the Buddhist thing came later. Depending on the writer, Lisa has some good takes. She also helped Homer when he organized a strike.

WHAT DID HE INVENT?! WHAT?! WHAT?! FUCK YOU!

This makes me almost as irrationally mad as when people used to list Steve Jobs as a genius next to Einstien and Newton.

He told some people to combine an apple computer with a phone. That's the same as changing the field of physics forever, right?

They did something like this in Star Trek: Discovery, listed Elon alongside Zefram Cochrane and the Wright Brothers :agony-limitless:

i've been trying to decide what to do with Elon and a big problem has come up

the man has effectively done nothing, by which I mean we can't accurately judge him as a human or make measure upon his soul, for he is effectively just finance + memes: not a person, with feelings, a null quantity, alienated from any moral or determining freedom, and thus we all cry: surely there must have been some moral action, some essence, a thing beyond tweets; image-qua-marketing-department, a self, the thing that is more than just a nerd with a bad hairline, something to actually judge - yet - fine; not an inventor, nor engineer, nor even really a sinner, but something, and yet - is he good? is he evil? it matters not, not one bit, because is he even there? self as avatar of finance capital, and all that's left is "personality", which in this case is "quirky memes" - is he even real? i doubt it, and therefore lay no claims otherwise in moral judgment

what did elon invent? nothing. what did elon even do? somehow even less. he had nothing to do with the cars, the rockets, the tunnels - at worst, he contributed to paypal, and really that's it, that's all - the rest was just the vertical tension of a narcissistic ego mediated by Twitter & capital.

elon is an illusion, he's a projection of the collective nerd ego, invariably twisted to do great Evil, but it turns out to be wellkinda just Capital, and so what do we have then?

we have the VOID. we have Absolute Nothing, uncritically grasped, and so it turns yet to Hell, and no judgment but the cries of the masses of internet commentariat, bubbling from solid-state cauldrons
