Seriously I've lost count of the number of people I've lost, it's at least 20 since the pandemic started. It's not like people forward me articles like "oh here's why COVID is fine now".

It's an iron law to me know, I've seen it so much in my life. Libs CANNOT stomach the idea that they're in the wrong about something. It'll eat them up inside worse than anything.

I wore masks in public before covid, not wearing masks is a weird american cultural thing, the flu is still out there.

It's so weird to me that unitedstatesers weren't masking every flu season before covid. So many deaths could have been prevented from the flu alone! The flu spreads through the air, and masks stop it. So why haven't we been wearing them? Handwashing is good but it doesn't protect from a lot of airborn transmission. Almost like the cdc has been eschewing commonsense safety measures for a long time.

My favorite strategy for when people ask why I'm wearing a mask is to cough (fake obv, but I try to make it somewhat believable) and tell them I currently have covid but felt like going out anyway.

It's great because people you're not forced to keep interacting with try to get away from you ASAP with a (hopefully) newly rediscovered and more appropriate fear of covid, and people you're forced to keep interacting with will get indignant or angry and then you can clarify that you're fucking with them and if they think covid is that fucking serious that they're now mad at you, WHICH IT IS, then they should STOP FUCKING MASK SHAMING PEOPLE AND MAYBE WEAR ONE.

I'm definitely a liberal of the 1st type because I never even ask other people to mask up anymore, but it sucks so much that I do as much as wear an n95 and that's enough to get weird looks and people ask if I'm sick. Have they memory holed the entire pandemic that quickly?

I’ve noticed people suppressing it or straight up just hand-waiving it away.

I had an important family member die quite horrifically because of covid (sudden, intubated, super traumatic). Yet people who know this in my life still say shit like ‘what’s the worst that could happen’ and chuckle to me when I insist on masking up.

I can never tell whether it’s because of delusion, denial, or nihilism.

Exact same thing over here, big important member of my family died of Covid like 4 months ago and I'm the only one who's masking up anymore. I even reminded my mom about that and, first she looked at me like I was crazy, then she said "Oh but he died of covid complications, not covid itself" AAAAAA bordiga-despair

I gotta admit, the evidence is never just right. Healthy people get horribly sick and occasionally disabled. One 28 year-old guy I know had to stop working and move back in with his parents. I've seen more people in their twenties hospitalised this year. Tennis and basketball have been hard his by COVID this year. Oh ya, and all the science. But there's also a million other explanations except the airborne virus that we've known for decades is a killer.

I got COVID 2 years ago and one long term issue i have is crippling migraines. Never got them before. Get them regularly now. Oh, and chronic fatigue.

But try getting a doctor to treat you for being tired and having a headache. Everyone is like "well, you just have to suck it up and get on with it." Easy for them to fucking say.

I'm very sorry for your difficulties. It must be extra shitty considering that our society could have locked down for a month and not done this. I've heard that Paxlovid helps with long-COVID, but I can't see it doing much for headaches. stalin-heart

The reason I'm so damn strict about precautions is that I know that I'm just one infection away from everyone gaslighting and diminishing my real shit major health issues, as we all know that humans like to do. I have no faith in society or most of my social connections giving a fuck about me after losing my health and/or job.

Sorry again for what you have to go through. I fucking hate how we love to blame and burden the victim.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but imagine being an older doctor in 1890, and remembering your past years of not hand washing because no one did it. Also when you mask, you're basically wearing a sign that says "I'm a fucking amazing person and couldn't give a fuck what the chuds think".

That shit is beyond toxic. COVID conscious Twitter is filled with immunocompromised people sharing strats on how to manage all the white dude intrusions into their personal safety.

After everything we've been through since 2020, I couldn't be angry at that response if I tried. Really.

I get that not everyone can N95 and refuse to unmask indoors. But you'd help out the vulnerable by masking in shops and stuff. Also long-COVID is debilitating.

Ya I feel for young people that have to lose their carefree days that we had in the 90s.

Dunno what side you're coming from, but no COVID cautious person says "mask up forever". Better vaccines and treatments will get here. "Mask up forever" is the same "you're a Putin propagandist" argument that the pro-war crowd throws.
