      16 gauge is only like 1.5 mm think. #16 24 in x 24 would only weigh around 10 pounds or something. It would be to light on its own.

      If you bumped it up to 11 gauge would literally double the thinness, weight and add durability.

      Pretty sure those Home Depot prices are high. But I am Canadian and have no idea about american metal prices.

      I can buy #16 4'x8' for around $100. I think 2'x2' #11 would be like $50. Pretty sure one of the local welding shops would trade me a #16 24 in x 24 for like for a box a beer ($30ish)
