Watching Our Planet on Netflix because I'm bored as shit and nature is so cool. Like how does evolution even lead to the level of speciality for some of the plants and animals out there?
And we're killing it all. One main party in the US hates nature and doesn't think anything is wrong and the other just elected a guy who supports fracking and opposes the GND
:Agony:
When I think about nature im reminded of that one scene in LOTR where Sam sees a star and it alleviates his despair because he knows that regardless of the outcome of the quest there will still be beauty untouched and unmolested. Whatever humans do to this planet life will adapt and take on new and unknowable forms in the coming millennia, and all of that life will be just as magnificent as that which capitalism has destroyed. And the thought makes me feel less anxious about the fate of the human species.
"There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."
Hard disagree. The circle of life is compelling to me tbh. The feeling of everything is connected and the death of any organism leads to the life of another.
Plus it's not all bad. One of the cooler ones highlighted was a plant that had a funnel. The sides were slick and the insects fell through and had to climb out a small hole. It barely fit in order for some pollen to rub off on it. That's fucking cool
Idk I find it comforting that my ashes will be used as nutrients for some plant that will in turn feed some animal.
But yes I'm an atheist and life is pretty much meaningless so sometimes I have some pretty fun struggle sessions about that.
