Capitalist efficiency babyyy. You just know this shit is happening everywhere.
I also heard Terrance on trillbillies say that the US is on track to achieve hers immunity via vaccine in SEVEN YEARS (I couldn’t find whatever source he was talking about though) u/an_engel_on_earth provided the source. Grim stuff.
okay, now there's definitely no excuse to not searching for a viable method of getting the vaccine from literally anywhere other than the west
Even the British vaccine would do, although TERF Island is probably going to fuck up worst than the US somehow.
And only American innovation can produce not one but two vaccines that have to be stored in a hospital freezer or on dry ice; while the rest of the world can somehow make several vaccines that can be stored in a regular fridge.
Well the UK has already been fucking up their rollout and now have a policy of mixing and matching different vaccines if you can't get a second dose of the first one you got, are currently reaching daily highs of case numbers , have people holding anti-lockdown protests outside of COVID wards, and hospital staff are being threatened with sackings and loss of funding if they break from the Government comms strategy (lol remember how people complain about how China is lying about their COVID response . Safe to say it's going swimmingly in wonderful Britannia.

I think it's much more likely that they thought that different vaccine types may not work so they put a bunch of money into each one, and the pfizer mRNA one got all the media attention because it's new, had the catchy storage headline, and got trial results out the fastest. Most people in the US in the end are going to probably get the Moderna vaccine which is still mRNA but can be stored in a normal fridge for like a month (why the moderna one doesn't need to be stored super cold, idk, I think it's because Moderna has better tech from doing mRNA research longer and created a more stable compound, travesty of the free market that they aren't required to share that shit so pfizer can make a more stable vaccine).
