Capitalist efficiency babyyy. You just know this shit is happening everywhere.

I also heard Terrance on trillbillies say that the US is on track to achieve hers immunity via vaccine in SEVEN YEARS (I couldn’t find whatever source he was talking about though) u/an_engel_on_earth provided the source. Grim stuff.

Well duh? You can't jump the line you greedy bastard.

I can't believe daddy Cuomo didn't win Time's Person of the Year for his outstanding handling of this pandemic!

If you promise not to be mean to Mr. Cuomo (or any Dems you cheeky fuck!!!) maybe he'll be nice enough to give you an expired dose.

That's one where I'd want to see how the executive order is written. Consider that both of these can be portrayed by hostile media as what you're saying:

      1. "Anyone who gives an unapproved person the vaccine, no matter the reason, is fined one million dollars and loses their medical license, full stop."
      2. "If you give an unapproved person the vaccine, you could be fined up to one million dollars, and you could be subjected to punishments up to and including losing your medical license. But if approved people don't show and you give soon-to-expire vaccines to high-risk groups, that's OK."

Cuomo's a shithead, but it's extremely easy to imagine a more defensible version of that rule and it being reported as draconian anyway.

In that case, presenting it like this is absolutely bad, if only because -- whatever the reality of the application of this policy -- it'll scare some healthcare workers into letting doses expire.

okay, now there's definitely no excuse to not searching for a viable method of getting the vaccine from literally anywhere other than the west

Even the British vaccine would do, although TERF Island is probably going to fuck up worst than the US somehow.

And only American innovation can produce not one but two vaccines that have to be stored in a hospital freezer or on dry ice; while the rest of the world can somehow make several vaccines that can be stored in a regular fridge.

This is fucking hilarious. We live in a simulation, and we're going to have to deal with this for the next 10 fucking years at the very least, thanks to the absurd speed of mutations. :agony-deep:

I believe "seven years" is from this article by mah boi David wallace-Wells https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/americas-vaccine-rollout-disaster.html

full quote "How badly are we doing? In September, President Trump promised 100 million vaccinations by the end of the year. As a country, we have only 40 million doses, and had aimed, according to Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar, to vaccinate 20 million by year-end. That’s bad enough. But we have administered only 2 million of those — barely 10 percent of the goal. At this rate, achieving sufficient vaccination to reach herd immunity and bring the pandemic to a close in the U.S. will take about seven years."

And that's assuming that there won't be another strain of COVID that isn't affected by the vaccine?

In theory, manufacture and distribution will scale up over time.

In practice, I suspect we'll continue to trip over our own dicks.

I just saw an article that said 10 years.

Which is functionally never. We don't even really know the window this gives us.

I'm really considering bailing to Canada to get it.

capitalism gives us nothing. it keeps all our shit hostage, and would rather burn it to the fucking ground than give us scraps.

also: americans are filthy plague rats and this will never improve until they're all fucking dead.
