    this is exactly it. although i would also argue that a" positive and affirming community" (a civil one) has its own methods of social control its just forced into passive aggressiveness

      Either path self-selects it's own audience; the romp will drive people away, and so will the safe space (using that word non-ironically and respectfully).

        i think the community should be allowed to self determine that, which it will do all on its own as it finds its identity

        Its a problem with the internet and a problem with the 'dirtbag left' as a concept, I mean how many people get pissed about stuff the hosts of chapotraphouse say online? Their whole thing is being rude and shitting on people. And they came up with the term to describe that

          The issue is there's no clear delineation of an 'acceptable' target. Everyone is all for being mean to the bad people, but who are the bad people?

          Or even shitting on the good people with the bad takes; what level of bad take justifies it?
