Because despite us all being some flavour of leftist, a shitload of people here still assume the worst of everyone else

This includes the moderation team btw

I am always afraid to anger people because of my English skill. My spoken English is very poor so I can not even rely on reading it (。╯︵╰。)

Yeah I miss that flair a great deal

It was nice having that little disclaimer floating above me so I didn’t have to obsess about coming off the right way

For those who aren’t terminally online the flair was

“If I say something dumb teach me not mock me”

I'm guessing the healthy back and forths aren't what gets reported to the moderators and admins, so probably not what they're referring to.

The cases of debate-broism that are being discussed all seem like the poster got angry. Obviously that's not a blank cheque to say whatever you want, but on the other hand this seems a bit reminiscent of libs' obsession with civility. Slurs, abuse, accusations, these should all be bannable no matter how heated somebody gets, but name-dropping a few logical fallacies or refusing to concede a point, does that really need mod enforcement?

As an example during I got into an argument with somebody here about whether pornhub going registered-user-only was a good or bad thing. It did get a bit heated and I think we were both convinced at some points that the other person was arguing in bad faith. But I don't think either of should have been banned. Somebody else in the same thread got extremely mad and accused the person I was arguing with of being a pedophile. They did get banned, and I think that's reasonable.

why the fuck do the mods decide what is a necessary argument? the "dirtbag" left is now banning for a violation of civility? if you get annoyed at someone downvote them, like damn. mods are cops and the less of you the better.

this is frankly a transparent effort to justify increased moderating to the users of the forum. fuck off. and i dont apologize for my language because im mad and im allowed to be mad

oh my fucking god. i dont care if someone calls themselves a leftist or not i can still disagree with them just as much. particularly if theyre trying to police my language. it doesnt matter what you call yourself in that context.

and who determines if someones a leftist or not and has this protection, the mods i guess?

honestly, bottom line, fuck off from conversations that have nothing to do with you. like, just go away if youre not involved. its that simple, you obviously have a complex from moderating

It literally does mean that, the question is how closely this sites' values allign with the dirtbag left. Amber Frost coined the term to describe chapotraphouse-adjacent people who were on the left but were mean to other people on the left on the internet.

You can have a polite and affirming community or a dirtbag no-holds romp, and there is definitely a place for both, but there's no way to square the circle and get a community that is always nice to the right people and mean to the right people; that is not a fixed point in the slightest.

this is exactly it. although i would also argue that a" positive and affirming community" (a civil one) has its own methods of social control its just forced into passive aggressiveness

Either path self-selects it's own audience; the romp will drive people away, and so will the safe space (using that word non-ironically and respectfully).

i think the community should be allowed to self determine that, which it will do all on its own as it finds its identity

Its a problem with the internet and a problem with the 'dirtbag left' as a concept, I mean how many people get pissed about stuff the hosts of chapotraphouse say online? Their whole thing is being rude and shitting on people. And they came up with the term to describe that

The issue is there's no clear delineation of an 'acceptable' target. Everyone is all for being mean to the bad people, but who are the bad people?

Or even shitting on the good people with the bad takes; what level of bad take justifies it?

It gets even dicier when you add to that the fact that a funny criticism is more acceptable than unfunny criticism.

You all literally have a goodbye post stickied from a user who disagreed with me yesterday. Their entire argument was "shut the fuck up, dumbfuck lib".

I did not report it. I ain't no snitch. But some of the mods knew about it they deleted my post.

This site leans straight male right? Groups of guys tend to do this kind of stuff. We do like constantly fuck with each other, jockey, and insult as a weird form of flattery. I'll call my close friends or my brother names for no reason and they'll do it back. It's weird though I didn't think groups of modern hard leftists would operate in the same way but here we are. Gotta keep in mind it isn't you and the five dudebros at the bar calling each other fuckface over and over for no reason.

You could definitely call it that. I'd like to think male only sort of pack bonding has it's place. A bunch of dudebros got together and blew Nazi's heads off. Just have to remember that not everyone you talk to on here is your friend that plays rugby and be respectful.

It has its place but it can easily lead to actual hostility. I've had it happen with a good friend so we each decided to chill with the rudeness and now we just make fun of each other through absurdism like insinuating they are weak because they are a pie thief.

I really don't do that type of stuff on here but I'll call you fuckface from now on and you can call me asshole. It'll be like I am out for a pint. *Oh wait you meant blowing Nazis heads off. Lmao. There were definitely female resisters. Very toxic!
