That is an absolutely hilarious political move in this situation. It fucks things right up.

Think of the calculus here. You applauded this nazi but you're pretending now that your applause was accidental. What do you do? Refuse to extradite the nazi? That's gonna make it look like you're full of shit about your applauding being a mistake.

Either they agree to the extradition to cover their asses or they look like nazis. Either way this story stays news relevant for a good while now and they were hoping it would die down quickly.

Because Canada fucking loves Nazis. Same reasons they let tens of thousands in after WW2, same reason their deputy PM is the unapologetic child of a Ukrainian Nazi, same reason they are part of the NATO Nazi alliance, same reason they clapped for a nazi in their parliament and thanked him for his service. THEY ARE NAZIS.

It's not a secret, Canada loves their Ukrainian Nazis. Extraditing a single Nazi would just be them caving to political and media pressure. For me to believe that Canada no longer loves Nazis they would have to put all the remaining Nazis on trial and demolish all their Nazi monuments. They would probably also have to reverse the Canadian law rejecting the Nuremberg trials and declare the Waffen-SS a criminal organization.

Look up who Chrystia Freeland's grandfather was for more interesting facts about Canada and Nazis.

That would just make them embarrassed Nazis, embarrassed since they've been called out.

They're not going to. If by some fluke they do, it means the Polish lobby in Canada is more powerful than I realized and more powerful than the Ukrainian lobby. If the Jewish lobby gets involved, then maybe. Seems like it's not going to have much to do with how Nazi Canada is or isn't, and more to do with the competition between various special interest groups and who happens to have more leverage at the moment.

Canada seems to be full of Ukrainian Nazis, their defense minister Chrystia Freeland's grand father was the chief ediotor of a Ukrainian newspaper for the Nazis. There might be political support for the Nazi against extradition.

          https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/freeland-warns-canadians-to-beware-of-russian-disinformation/article34227707/

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland, who is being targeted by allegations in pro-Moscow websites that her maternal Ukrainian grandfather was a Nazi collaborator, warned Monday that Canada should expect to be the focus of Russian disinformation campaigns similar to what is happening in Europe and the United States.

an old timey 1800s one for a group that's considered white now. It's a slur in the way guido, wop or dago are. This house was built on ironic racism against Irish, Italians and Poles!

Yeah, I'll admit this was an Americanism of mine and I acted like a burger here. In America, poles are not really discriminated against and are basically Irish-American Whites indistinguishable from other whites beyond incomprehensible surname spelling. I hadn't considered that it was much worse in Europe

Here in the UK we got a considerable amount of migrants from Poland, and the amount of racism against them was incredibly high. I never met a bad Polish migrant too, they are all lovely.

"Ironic" Racism is some far right BS. I'm not white btw. White people "ironically" being racist towards eachother is the cringiest shit to witness.

            ironic racism

Is just good old fashioned racism I think. I'm glad you didn't mean it as a slur, but I've certainly never heard anyone use that word positively. Usually as a joke about how stupid people from Poland are. I knew it meant an impossibly stupid person before I knew even what Poland was.

Hunka is from Ternopil region he most probably do have shitton of Poles in his ancestry, that region was along the city of Lwów mostly Polish in the past. Also western and eastern Slavs are basically identical in looks, you cannot recognize Czech from Pole from Ukrainian from Russian etc on a basis of look alone.

Polish politicians have more political instinct than the Liberal party.

It took at least 5 days since the event, getting bullied by 2 parties on the parliament (they also clapped btw) and Maxime Bernier to shit on you to fire the ''person responsible'' (still a MP btw)

As a communist, it's a remarkable feeling shouting to the wind about the self-evident Nazification of Ukraine and the support by the West for its fascist client states, while being called a Russian bot in the flesh, only to then have every point you've made been proven utterly correct and for no-one to recognise it even when they have to clean up after themselves after having shit the bed.

Oh wait it's called Cassandra complex.

They knew what they were clapping for. And they thought it was OK just because the Nazi had been fighting the dirty Russians. And then they're response to it all....

        It's fucking disgusting.

the thing that really surprised me about all this is that it's so fucked that i actually felt disappointed by the canadian government. like i've known forever that my country is imperialist to the core. i've learned not to expect a single good thing from canada. yet somehow this apparently broke some kind of line I didn't know existed. i won't go as far as to say I was surprised, but i was disappointed, i didn't know it was possible for me to be disappointed by these ghouls anymore.

Y'know, I was thinking about this today.

This guy's got kids and grandkids and probably great grandkids. Did they know? His kids had to know, right? Did they just ignore that their father was a member of one of the most evil organizations to exist? Did all his grandkids just discover that oops, grandpa was a fucking Waffen-SS trooper from the news media?

There's no answer that isn't grim as fuck, and I can only hope he has no loved ones, that everyone who knew he was a Nazi immediately excised him from their lives.

Ukraine at the moment are just being incredibly difficult and entitled in their dealings with the west. Although that is how all nations that consider themselves at war are like to deal with
