Like everytime you see people outraged on union negotiations, here is what they are actually asking for:

The UAW is asking automakers for a 36% pay increase across a four-year contract

    And

Along with substantial pay raises, more paid time off and pension benefits, one of the changes UAW leaders have been bargaining for is a four-day workweek, working 32 hours for 40 hours of pay, and more time off "to spend with family," according to the UAW site.

    Full support to UAW.

I grow tired. This was debunked by Ricardo in 1817 and again by Marx in 1865. How wonderful it is to live in a world where everyone believes the economic equivalent of miasma theory.

Wasn't the US at like 2% inflation and 3% unemployment until the Fed decided to go scorched earth on the working class by raising rates lmao?

Look at my funny graph using the actual data instead of just drawing a line https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?g=19jUt

Sometimes unemployment and inflation go in opposite directions and sometimes they go in the same direction.

This is what it happened to do in the 60s when economists decided the Phillips curve exists. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?g=19jUB

If UAW get it, there’s a solid chance we all can.

Folks are upset at people possibly being treated better than they are after decades of stagnation and hard labor. Plus fighting for it and possibly losing their jobs as a result.

Yo, maybe the rest of us also need to unionize!

Ofc musk wants that to not happen. Idk who the other guy is but with a blue check… probably an asshole.

The UAW and the Teamsters have national bargaining. If you're in retail or are a grad student, your union bargains local by local rn. Our unions have to do a lot of work coordinating bargaining before we see 36% raises outside of wearhouses and manufacturing.

What gets forgotten time and again is that the working class is paid so little to start with that labor costs don't often factor into prices much at all. It's far outstripped in cost of materials, electricity, transport etc

Ah, yes, wage inflation. When wages have been stagnant or even negative after adjusting for inflation for 40 years, when wages haven't grown basically at all with respect to GDP for 40 years, yes, wage inflation. I like how it's inflation due to supply chain disruption until people want a cost of living increase.

inflation due to supply chain disruption

Even this, which is the reality of it plus some hefty price gouging from our oligopolistic lords, has been a marginal position among economists. Larry Summers still out at his vacation home telling CNN that unemployment must rise and pay must stagnate for the god of capital to be satiated.

Amazed that any of you were able to last years on that site. I lasted two days in 2014 and never looked back.

Not that this would actually cause the big three to go bankrupt, but shouldn’t musk want them to? They’re his direct competitors. The man is so very stupid

The bourgeoisie have impeccable class solidarity, and the 'ordinary American' is blindly loyal to them since they have more solidarity with any white billionaire that will never know their name than any of their fellow workers who might not share a skin color.
