Mieville is fucking awesome. Loved Perdido Street Station and even more so The Scar. Its got so much imagination it makes other fantasy look absolutely dull. Oh, an elf? How about an interdimensional psychic spider with a fetish for cutting ears off and talking in stream of consciousness. :geordi-yes:

This is probably one of the most important Trotsky texts alongside Permanent Revolution. The codified concept of the transitional demand is meant to achieve a balance between opportunist "minimalist" demands and ultraleft "maximalist" demands, designed to appeal to workers at their current state of consciousness while both pointing in a revolutionary direction and still being economically feasible under capitalism or in a dual power situation. Some of the demands Trotsky included in this 1930s text would probably be considered ultraleft nowadays (e.g. forming workers' councils as a step towards building dual power, something that desperately needed to happen in Spain at the time but not enough) since we're no where near as organized as workers were then, but others probably wouldn't need much updating. The sliding scale of wages/working hours demand is close to evergreen, for example, so long as inflation is constantly eating away at workers' purchasing power (though we shouldn't necessarily use that exact phrasing).

I just thought about downbearing your post.

FAQ What does this mean? The amount of bears(points) on your post and Chapo.chat account has decreased by zero.

Why did you do this? There are several reasons I may deem a post to be unworthy of positive or neutral bears. These include, but are not limited to:

    Rudeness towards other Chapos,

    Spreading incorrect information,

Sarcasm not correctly flagged with a /s.

Am I banned from the Chapo.chat? No - not yet. But you should refrain from making comments like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue an additional downbears, which may put your posting and commenting privileges in jeopardy.

I don’t believe my post deserved a downbear. Can you un-downbear it? Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downbear. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to Chapo PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of downbear appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception.

How can I prevent this from happening in the future? Accept the downbear and move on. But learn from this mistake: your behavior will not be tolerated on Chapo.chat. I will continue to issue downbears until you improve your conduct. Remember: Chapo is privilege, not a right.

The USSR's leadership under Stalin and co. was too far gone to spread revolution internationally before WW2. When the capital-C Communists pivoted from their "succdems are social fascists" position to popular frontism, they ended up playing a counterrevolutionary role within and close to the imperial core, a policy meant to defend the Soviet bloc geopolitically, the logical extreme of "socialism in one country" as a long-term strategy rather than as a tactic. The 3rd international's intervention in the Spanish civil war was just about the final straw that prompted the formation of the 4th international to begin with.

on trosky? like he was the commander of the red army during the revolution in the ussr and famously like stalin loved some drama, he believed in permanent revolution and in a international revolution while stalin was more of do the revolution and russia we can't afford to help all the other countries WHICH WAS FAIR AS THE WW2 DESTROYED THE COUNTRY that is a really simplified version of this also stalin killed him eventually and troskist vs stalinist have been arguing about these dudes since lenin died
