I can help you get a good used car if you want. There are a lot of very affordable used cars on the market right now. I don't think there will be more once evictions start.
If you want a Hybrid get a Prius. They're good cars. You can get one in the US for around 4k. If you go to look at one in person make sure they haven't run the car yet and you are starting a cold engine. Stay away from Ford Hybrids.

My mom owned a Prius for years so I get that they're great cars, but buying a used one for $4k? I was looking earlier today and I couldn't even find one for $14k that was made less than 5 years ago.
The best "deal" I found was a 2018 Prius for $18.5k that ended up having an additional $2k dealer charge hidden in it, making it closer to $20.5k.
Oh, and my current car with transmission issues is a Ford, so I entirely understand how shit their cars are. Would you happen to know if Kia makes good hybrids? I think they're closer to my price range.
The Prius "C" is a sub-subcompact version that is usually dirt cheap on the used market:

Toyota also made hybrid versions of some of their normal lines (e.g., Camry, Corolla, and even the freaking Highlander); those aren't bad, but the fuel economy is nowhere near the Prius (especially the Highlander), and they hold value fairly well compared to their gas-only counterparts. What's comical is when you run across the Lexus versions of some of those. Woe to anyone who ever has to replace a stereo in an RX400H.

I'm looking at the cheapest of the cheap Prius. If you want a car that was made in the last 5 years it won't be that cheap.
The jury is still out on Kias for me. I've heard good and bad. The people I know who own them really like them.
