Welcome to the Melbourne Community Daily Discussion Thread.
Well, I opened my mouth a bit to soon. It appears kitty passed away sometime in the night on the couch nestled among the pillows. Had to wake the poor housemate up and give her the news, and she is not taking it well.
R.I.P to the little man himself.

So sorry to hear that. It's never easy for us, but it does sound like he had about as good a passing as possible.
Oh, no. But at least your little man passed peacefully and in a lovely comfy place.
Rest well, little one. Topes is probably wandering over to sniff you as I type.I’m so sorry. He had a wonderful life of stealing prawns and passed peacefully with his owner thinking of him.
I'm so sorry 😞 it sounds like he passed away comfortably at least
Oh man I'm sorry. At least there's some comfort to be had in a peaceful passing.
Just wanted quickly pop in and say thank you all for your words of condolence this morning, they were much appreciated. It's going to be a bit sad for a while, but all will be well again soon.
Housemate has decided to have him cremated (he was technically theirs), and I've secretly called the crematorium to have him upgraded to an urn that looks like a sleeping cat, so he will look nice amongst their little fancy knick knacks shelf.
So pretty! I hope there are birthday sardines (or treat of choice) 🐟🐟
At the local shops saw a bloke with a 'Vote No' t-shirt. Held my stare a bit too long and he saw me shaking my head.
He got a bit fired up and asked me if I disagree with his opinion.
I told him that I was actually wondering why he didn't buy one in his size, cause his gut was hanging out of the bottom.
He called me an 'removed removed' and a few other choice words while he stormed off.
I love people sometimes :)
Very much so. Somehow I don't think old mate was capable of critical thinking.
I figure he wanted a reaction from someone so I gave him one. I hope he's still muttering to himself.

🤣 That's fuckin' gold mate! I hope he attended the burns unit.
My wife really knows some really simple recipes that are delicious.
A few days ago she prepared some chopped up tomatoes, shallots, seasoned with a bit of salt. Loved it.
Last week when I asked her what she wanted for breakfast, she responded with rice and bacon, nothing else. Also loved it.
Perhaps she could post them on here.

Thanks. If mummy doesn't win, no one gets to snack. Dems the rules.
Look it was a good game. Competition was tough. They played their best but yeah I just happen to come home with the chocolates.
Welp that's the rest of my weekend fucked. I was ok with not going anywhere too far and once a day popping over to my friends place to look after her cats while she's interstate but this morning as I was taking her to the airport I got a phone call from my dad's friend saying dad's sick and he's asked if I can come and stay at the house. So I'll have to drive from Melton back into my place in Docklands, then scoot over to hers to look after the cats (no parking at hers) then come back here to Melton.
Dad has taken up residence in the lounge with a spew bucket so I don't want to be near that. I've just taken myself to a back bedroom where I've just got my phone to keep entertained, ready to be called in when he needs something.
I guess that means I could get a Buddy's pie for lunch though. I better not catch whatever dad's got or I'll be PISSED.
Oh gosh. I hope dad recovers quickly. Remember chunky beef pie. Their plain or curry pies are good too. Pop next door for a home style sausage roll for Ron.
Today my evil plan to mow the lawns while the GF is on may have to be postponed due to hot weather (not good for lawns). So I'm going to start up the mower at 8.30 am precisely to wake everyone up so that they can get ready for the GF or whatever they plan to do. It's a public service really.
Handing back bboi butters to SIL today.
He's had quite the adventure.
So glad nothing bad happened to him. Objectively every time I look after him it's just mind boggling how intelligent and clever he is. I thought my old abyssinian was up there but this thing is a few steps beyond that.
Bit of a relief handing back really. No type of door will stop that cat.
As I will soon be having my own kitchen (for the first time in 2 years) and I want to continue my healthy eating/losing weight, does anyone have some good websites for healthy dinner recipes? Trying to get on top of it so I don't get junk food under the guise of 'I just moved, you deserve it'.
Plus I am excited to learn to cook.
recipietineats is reliable and easy once you're back into the swing of cooking for yourself.
You're welcome. I highly recommend buying the The Healthy Food Guide magazine at your local supermarket. For $8 it is packed with recipe ideas. It comes out monthly.
I just chuck stuff into a frying pan with butter, garlic, chilli, salt and pepper. Always turns out good

I love the Cordon Bleu books. They are super easy, have lots of pictures and use supermarket attainable ingredients. Lots of tins in their recipes and yet it's good food. https://www.angusrobertson.com.au/books/le-cordon-bleu-quick-and-easy-jeni-wright/p/9781592231980 https://www.amazon.com/Cordon-Bleu-Complete-Cook-Collection/dp/1571457151
I've come to feed my friends cats and I don't know why I'm speaking to them like they're little kids.
They appreciate it.
How you doin little munchkins then you tell them your shopping list and they're still kinda keen on it.
I would like to know how His Butterness would respond to such affectionate gestures
I'm convinced little buttery man could do all the lists It was cute seeing the SIL's fam meet him for the first time though (first time they've been here), they loved him.
Looks like dad may have just had food poisoning, he's feeling a lot better now so I've been released into the world. About to head back to the city but couldn't resist my curiosity for one of these local sausage rolls before I go. They must be good because they're the only thing sold out but they're making more, but I gotta wait.
lol just saw a regular youngish Melton family come out of the bakery.. ex-local footy legend type and a pub princess, with their 2 little rat tail haired kids around 5 or 6 years old. I thought "I bet one of them is named Jackson or similar", then the dad called out to one "Jackson!". I know my home town.
@CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone excellent call on the sausage rolls from that bakery. Very much home made style. They actually remind me a lot of the sausage rolls my ex used to make, which is fine because I liked them and her very much at the time.
Continuing my evening of decadence, I just ate some apple crumble that I got from a nearby Vietnamese bakery and omg it was a mouth orgasm.
I may have heated up the apple crumble and added a side of haagen Das Caramel Biscuit and Cream Ice cream.
Always takes more time to cook in an unfamiliar kitchen and especially one that is cleaned so meticulously that you're conscious of keeping it spotless when you're done. Anyway, at long last, dinner is served. I posted more about the Mexican rice and the jackfruit side on Food Australia here. and after that post I put together a red cabbage and carrot slaw using this recipe.
