I totally realize most people are going to disagree with me here but I feel compelled to say that closing the site for an update wasn't a very kind thing to do. We have seen TONS of posts from vulnerable populations talking about how this site is a source of support and humor in a dark time. Irony and dirtbagism aside, taking away that support without warning was not okay.

You can say I'm being silly, or humorless or that i "don't understand technology". Whatever. I love the lemmy instance and I love this community. But sometimes I come home after dealing with ableism and our nightmare reality all day, and this site is one of many things that make me feel better. It wasn't a good feeling to find this site closed for literal minutes the sake of "updates". Maybe that's laughable or pathetic. But for me, it's true.

While I agree that a heads-up would be nice, sometimes emergency maintenance dictates that very little to no warning can be given prior to performing site maintenance. That said, I have no idea as to the nature of this downtime so ...

Also, I hope you had a reasonably tolerable day.

Lmao, don't worry about it, this is just a very old and very dumb joke from the subreddit - but being able to take that post seriously is incredibly sweet of you comrade. I hope you're doing well too :heart-sickle:
