H.P Lovecraft was also a racist socialist. What a weird way to live. “I believe in economic equality, but not racial equality.”

I mean, it was the 20's and 30's, "progressives" of the time were racist as fuck and promoted eugenics

That could be. I don’t know a whole lot about him. I didn’t know either of those things about him until I got a collection of his stories and those bits of info were in the preface.

I mean its midcentury western socdem but Scandanivian governments did forced sterilization programs on disabled population and other genocidal shit to Sami and other various indigenous people. Some segregated trade unions in the US also come to mind.

I think Lovecraft also wrote letters later referring to his earlier self as a cringy dip shit, but it was a little ambiguous as to what he was referring to, as I recall.

Hey I only started watching community because I saw Chevy chase was in it.

And "I'm Chevy Chase...and you're not" is weirdly always funny to me despite how simple it is and it remains the best weekend update opening line. Better than Norms deliberately terrible "here's the fake news".

By all accounts Chevy Chase was an major asshole on community, would treat people like shit and would refuse to do scenes he didn't like (including a final scene in season 3 that needed to be rewritten). Dan Harmon also seems to be quite an asshole, making the entire cast say "Fuck You Chevy," playing Chevy's angry voicemail on his podcast, etc. Season 4 is really weird too, he's in like 25% of the episodes and the characters have to keep explaining away his absence.

Speaking to The New Yorker about his time on Community, Glover said he viewed Chase as a legend who refused to recognize he was at the nadir of his career. “I just saw Chevy as fighting time — a true artist has to be O.K. with his reign being over,” Glover said. “I can’t help him if he’s thrashing in the water. But I know there’s a human in there somewhere—he’s almost too human.”

Wow, that is simultaneously incredibly kind and brutally honest.

OK he's a lot worse than I thought. I figured he was just your standard boomer. Like I wasn't going to go out of my way to support the fucker to begin with. Fuck. OK ignore me I'm completely wrong, he's a piece of shit and fuck him.

I hadn't heard that, just the story about him dropping the n-word. Doesn't surprise me though, he's also pretty homophobic iirc.

Has anyone seen Chevy Chases roast on comedy central? Apparently they couldn't get anyone who liked him to show up, so it's a bunch of random comedians dunking on him. There's a clip of a very young Marc Maron shitting on Chevy and it's awkward af.

Doubly terrible (for him) because his first roast had an absolutely all star cast, but he apparently alienated all his friends by being an asshole.
