Deep dish is 1) not pizza and 2) the only type that should be called a pie.
It just has a little more of everything, including bread :breadpill:
Lived in Chicago, live in NYC now.
No, sorry. NYC pizza wins by a mile. The worst NYC pizza I’ve had is roughly comparable to the average in Chicago.
Competition is just too steep and rent is too high for a mediocre pizza place to stay in business in NYC. If your pizza is bad people will just go one street over and get a better one next time
Y’all mother fuckers never had Detroit style deep dish and it shows
The best damn crust EVER
what's the distinction? I've been making my own pizzas from scratch and have never heard of this style, gotta give it a try 👀
It’s amazing. Grew up on the stuff and have spent a lifetime trying to convert people to it.
Of American pizzas, you may well be right. Chicago style is 🔥🔥🔥 when they get it right, and is something truly American. But no American pizza can surpass real neapolitan (of which nyc style is just a bastardization as far as I can tell). Fight me
Chicagoans eat thin crust pizza. The "deep dish" casseroles are for tourists.
this man was banned for stanning Hawaiian pizza, no I won't check the mod logs
edit: o shit you were actually banned for that lol
It was a funny joke, but unfortunately I was not online when it happened so I’m just finding out about it now.
once again it's made clear: no one who refuses to put pineapple on pizza should be given even a sniff of power

Did you assume I was making things up, lol
This style of pizza is often baked in rectangular steel trays designed for use as automotive drip pans or to hold small industrial parts in factories.
Not sure this isn't a bit
Welcome to Detroit history 85% of it is related to cars, 10% related to racism and 5% related to how we were an Underground Railroad stop.
There's a really good place around here that does Detroit style and it slaps.
There are also decent Chicago-style places, but literally nowhere nearby that can do a decent New York slice.
Detroiter here, very confused when "Detroit-style pizza" became a thing, because I can't understand if people mean "deep dish pizza" like Jets, Papa Romano's, and Pizza Hut (maybe just Pizza Hut in Detroit?) or if they literally just mean Buddy's. Because a bunch of the things people ascribe to "Detroit-style pizza" are literally just done by a single chain with about 15 restaurants that people only go to because they serve beer.
I kind of think the latest "Detroit-style pizza" thing is just a result of Buddy's getting some VC money and doing a national advertising campaign.
I'll also add that I've never been to a local non-chain pizzeria anywhere in the Detroit area that did a "Detroit-style pizza." Either one of a dozen pizza-and-wings places or something like Hippie's Pizza is more the norm.
Actually the closest pizza place to me does pretty good ribs. Better than their pizza, anyway.
The push to call it Detroit style is I believe recent but it’s been around as Sicilian style for a bit. Jet’s is a National chain and does it. A bunch of places in Cleveland have it as Sicilian style too
I really thought we were talking about in-text citations here. Chicago is GOAT.
Save that for the original @Posadas post. This is the real discussion.
“The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. And we all know you gotta cite history-based papers in Chicago style as it is the objectively best citation format”.
-Marx, probably
Everyone always think more is better with pizza, but less is almost always better. Unless you're just starving and want a million things in your mouth all at once lol
