It’s literally the most childish of the first trilogy by far
Children's media or no, it's just dumb as hell to compare things in the real world with all its complexities and history to what is at best a two dimensional narrative portrayed in pop media. This is the exact type of thing so many post modern thinkers criticize, where people in our image obsessed culture see only images based on things instead of the things in themselves. It's okay to like these things, but for the love of God don't build your life around them and see the world through that lens.
Especially for stuff that’s incredibly dumbed down shit like Star Wars and HP. It’s abundantly clear too given whenever a Star Wars movie adds any nuance, fan boys complain it deviates from the formula
It's only human to view the world through the lens of the stories in our popular conscience. If anything, the issue is just that the stories in our popular conscience are garbage and are becoming increasing beholden to Capitalist interests and consumerism in general.
The virgin "Trump is voldemort" vs. the chad "Immortan Joe Biden".
the ewoks were wookies before Lucas decided a cuter alien would sell more toys (he just transposed the syllables)
Scorsese recently got a ton of shit for saying super hero films were a joke. It helps my sanity to know that he agrees and is willing to ruffle feathers to let it be known.
There's nothing wrong with liking children's media as an adult. But there's such a fragility in those unwilling to accept what they like is made for kids.
The biggest argument ever in my MtG group text was over me saying Star Wars was an schlocky space opera that's held in too high esteem for it's cultural significance than its actual contribution as a piece (pieces) of art & people's insanely negative overreaction to trying something new with the Last Jedi was proof of that.
I mean libbery is libbery but rotj is my favorite of the ot so best watch ur step

FAQ
What does this mean?
The amount of karma (points) on your comment and Chapo.chat account has decreased by one.
Why did you do this?
There are several reasons I may deem a comment to be unworthy of positive or neutral karma. These include, but are not limited to:
- Rudeness towards other chapos,
- Spreading incorrect information,
- Sarcasm not correctly flagged with a /s.
- Liberalism
Am I banned from the Chapo, chat?
No - not yet. But you should refrain from making comments like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue an additional downvote, which may put your commenting and posting privileges in jeopardy.
I don't believe my comment deserved a downvote. Can you un-downvote it?
Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downvote. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to Chapo.chat PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of downvote appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception.
How can I prevent this from happening in the future?
Accept the downvote and move on. But learn from this mistake: your behavior will not be tolerated on Chapo.chat. I will continue to issue downvotes until you improve your conduct. Remember: Chapo.chat is privilege, not a right.
You have to click it 100 times, but after that, you will be able to buy an auto-downvoter that produces 0.1 downvotes/second.
A New Hope was also good, and the main reason is the rest of the auteurs hated Lucas's original cut, and his wife (and editor) essentially made a decent movie out of the shots they had. Apparently one of the biggest flaws was that he opened the movie with just too much exposition (which became the opening scroll) including weird political details the audience didn't need to know, which just sounds like the phantom menace to me.
Even the fucking shootouts were better. It combined the expressionist angle fuckery with retrofuturist architecture to make a battle scene that is so beautiful it excites me. I'm not sure if I like star wars, or if I like that EV:ESB has an extended universe.
I was gonna downvote and move on, but the transphobes won't let me, so here it goes:
The pacing is glacial.
The C3PO is god shit was racist.
The Luke-Leia smoldering eye contact was gross.
Slave Leia is was sexist.
The musical number was gross.
The drawn out dialogue about going to the dark side was fucking boring.
That episode had the Lando redemption arc, some 2d anti-imperialism, and the "1000 years digestion" thing that gave me nightmares as a child. That's it.
shorthand for real-world politics is terrible. You’re narrowing your lens of perspective exactly to fit what’s allowed in mainstream media
Can you think of a reason why American imperialists would sublimate their complicity with fascist genocide by making the space nazis British (Hollywood version of German) and pretending that the intersectional American army is antifa?

The throne room confrontation between Luke, Vader and Palpatine alone makes it the best of the original trilogy imo.
Yeah, you heard me.
I mean, The Empire is obviously USA. And the rebels are the Vietnamese. So what now?
