Numbers for 2019. I guess it was just a fad? It's a little disingenuous that they pump the numbers up with any altercation (even among adults) just because it's on school grounds, including parking lots and sports fields.

Here's a full timeline since Columbine. 2018 was a pretty heady year. As was 2014.

Obviously Covid-19 is a major factor in 2020, but how did we avoid any in 2019? And will the /pol incelsiors seek their revenge once Trump is out?

School shootings were a statistical blip in a country of 350 million people and 350 million guns, occurring predictably but contributing insignificantly to the nation's firearms mortality. Like abortion, school shootings were an issue that was useful to the political class in order to drive political engagement towards a safe topic . School shootings cannot actually be prevented or meaningfully influenced, and the focus on the most exceptional and rare mass shooting incidents ensures that there is no chance of school shooting fears resulting in actual political action that would harm any industry or interest group. However it is an extemely emotionally gripping topic that is easy to sensationalize, so it provides useful ammunition in the pageantry of american political warfare.

A feel like much of the psycho energy it would take to do a school shooting might have been redirected into qanon? Dunno if that theory tracks

Most supposed school shootings in fact never happened. NPR found that, out of the 235 shootings reported by the federal government for the 2015-16 school year, 161 of them (that's almost 69%!!!) flat out did not happen . An additional 59 could be neither confirmed nor disconfirmed. Only 11 of them could actually be confirmed; that's less than 5%. (The remaining 4 shootings, NPR found, did happen -- but they didn't qualify as school shootings, and were wrongly categorized as such.)

      Nice.

See, I knew there was some kooky accounting going on. I should mention I'm not a skeptic or anything, I'm just curious what happened to the spate of GI Jokes.

Hmmm. I dunno, Columbine was 25 years ago, it’s not like they popped up for a couple of years and then stopped. V-Tech was another big one I remember before the spate we had recently. Maybe we’re just returning to the mean of having an egregious one every few years?

I’d also like to see how school shootings line up over time with mass shooting in general.

You will look back in nostalgia at the apolitical random violence of the schoolshooting era....

It was only possible because of the Insane apoliticalness of the average Freaks , now that society has evolved and painted and identified its "Enemies", Schoolshootings are a thing of the past. Shootings will stay , dont you worry , its just more directed now.
