Can we have a serious discussion about the online left and their use of labels? Labels are obviously useful for group together texts/thinkers/movements that are related, but most people calling themselves this or that online are just being lazy and reductionist. Great, you read the Communist Manifesto and are going around telling everyone you are a Marxist. What do you have to say about the last 170 years of socialist thought? Are you Marxist-Leninists out there able to tell me how a semi-feudal Russia over 100 years ago is relevant to someone living now in the center of global capitalism? How about Anarchists tell me how exactly anarchism is going to solve our problems when we are facing global issues like climate change? Unless you have read in multiple traditions and can related those texts to current situations you're just role playing and some of this groups border on being religion. It's like you nerds are picking your favorite house in Harry Potter. Read some serious theory and start thinking about our conditions NOW. All these traditions offer essential insights into capitalism and how to overcome it, but no one addresses our current situation. Diversify your thought and think about how we actually build socialism.

Most importantly fucking organize. Peace out comrades :left-unity-2:

This relates to a question I was gonna post. Any good recommendations on modern theory? I was considering Richard Wolff’s latest book which specifically correlates the inherent nature of capitalism with our abysmal response to COVID.
