Just watched it last night and had a good time. I was wondering what the consensus was here
Steve Buscemi is good in everything and he's really good in this.
The whole thing is funny and good. Also, General Georgy Zhukov is a badass in every conceivable timeline.
One of five movies that can still make me laugh every time.
Just great in general.
"Not about politics, but the office politics of politics."
I spent the most of it thirsting over Zhukov. Can't remember much else to be honest
I am going to go out on a limb and say they weren't going for historical accuracy here?
It isn't historically accurate, it doesn't try to be. If you want a better critique of politics from Iannucci, check out In the Loop. It's scathing and quite accurate.
Death of Stalin is more of a critique of groupthink. It isn't saying anything about the Soviet Union, it's trying to use the idea of Stalin according to the West (brutal dictator according to the US gov) to implicate modern day Trump/Bush/conservatives and their followers. Iannucci is a lib, but he is able to point out the absurdity of politics and the stupidity of most of the ruling class.
Meh. I don't see anything wrong with this scene. Baria is blamed for everything wrong with the Soviet Union, but in this fake USSR all those in that room deserve blame as well. And I disagree that Johnson, Bolsonaro, Bush, and Erdogan aren't unredeemable morons. All of those men are on record saying idiotic things.
I mean the movie kind of sickened me and I turned it off because I couldn’t get a laugh
Same, I just didn't find it that funny. maybe i should revisit it or maybe I should just do other things with my time.
