Welcome back. This part of the series will be primarily focusing on genres. So far I have [Turn based RPG, Action RPG, Board Game, Arcade Game, third person shooter, MMO, Action, 4X (Civilization-like), 3D Platformer, Roguelike, Dungeon Crawler, Card Game, Point and click, Indie, Text dungeon, Souls-like, Stealth, Rhythm, Horror, Metroidvania, Survival, Sandbox, shoot/beat 'em up, City Builder, Adventure, Simulation, Puzzle, Fighting, MOBA, Real Time Tactics, Grand Strategy, Racing, Walking simulator, Tower Defense, Sports, Idle, Trivia, and Casual] as available genres. Let me know if I missed something, and I will try to get it added.

This is eventually all going to get compiled into one megathread for people who want gaming recommendations from Chapos specifically. Other consoles and genres will come in sporadic subsequent threads. Please contribute to previous threads if you missed them. This is meant to be an exhaustive list.

Expanding on your choice(s) is definitely a plus. Not everyone knows about or has played non-mainstream titles.

How has Touhou not been brought up? It's still huge in Japan (though I kind of doubt for the actual game).

I tried to get into touhou, I played the Scarlet Devil one but couldn't get past the very last boss without continuing. Not sure if you're supposed to move on or keep grinding every level until you win

Yes, same with Alien Hominid and Contra. Perhaps, I should have just named this "Side scrolling shooter" or something.

I think 2D shooter would be more fitting then, since a lot of the more traditional bullet hell games are topdown and not side scrollers.

Or Ketsui. Or Mushihimesama Futari -- Black Label is fun but easier since they make you OP deliberately. DDP Saioujou is pretty good but is 360-only. Daifukatssu (?) was cool and very accessible on PC. Blue Revolver. Crimson Clover. Muchi Muchi Pork is very good but only really playable on 360 1.01 - in MAME it's the 1.00 version, which is the version where the Pork gauge (the entire game's gimmick) fills way too slowly.

      God, what a great genre.

My favorite is Wild Guns on the SNES, quick game but hard. It's sort of like Sunset Rider but you shoot robot cowboys. Everything just works well. Give it a try if you haven't.

ZeroRanger. Really solid arcade style 2D shooter that's pretty much perfect in every aspect. The soundtrack in particular is amazing. It even has some small meta storytelling moments which is pretty interesting. It's fairly difficult but not to an insane degree although I have yet to actually beat it because of the final boss rush. Its not unfair it just requires a lot of memorization of patterns like most bosses do, just haven't had the patience to try it again.

Has to be Dodonpachi for me. Combo scoring system is amazing and it has just the right ammount of difficulty, I felt like I could 1cc the game (never did though, got stuck at stage 4 boss :sadness: ) , later sequels got a bit too ridiculous for me. Honorable mentions go to Espgaluda, because I liked the time slowing system or even running the gauge out and playing it in ultra speed and Castle of Shikigami for the character diversity, with every character there you play basically a totally different game and grazing system is also pretty fun.
