I'm not quite following the implication here. "New cases" have begun trending down since last week.

Eh, I guess I've found Total Cases to be the least useful indicator of trends, and I don't think having people reacquaint themselves with a new y-axis label is some grand conspiracy. Every other headline is about lack of ICU capacity being at fever pitch.

I guess the timing could be as a result of new admin and protocols too. I just look at China's cumulative graph and it's just a flat line for the last 11 months. If you're trying to contact trace or work with relevant information, Total Cases gives you nothing pertinent. I see where you're coming from, though. They should still have the option to look for Total Cases.

Short-term, yeah, I can see how it feels deceptive. But people seeing a different regional graph than they're used to and being challenged to read label axes is probably better for the long-term.

But if there's a grand conspiracy to whitewash Covid because Biden has assumed the presidency, I think we'll have a better handle on testing that with headlines. Although, to his credit, Biden's administration at least has a vaccine rollout plan, so also consider that as we see the numbers change over the coming months.

I guess I don't understand the implication. Is it that Google wants to feed into the impression that Biden is the pandemic savior and hustle "the economy" back on track?
