You could liken the political system of the star wars universe to any "corrupt" regime's political system: from roman empire to middle eastern autocracies. Stop calling everything you don't like neoliberal. The fuck did the galactic republic do, stop ewoks from nationalizing their booby trap industry and make them adhere to free market principles?

Stop using political ideologies as value judgement, even if those said ideologies suck ass

The Galactic Republic was probably some kind of capitalist hyper-exploitative shithole, their Galactic Senate had senators representing various intergalactic corporations, and those corporations had private Droid armies that could besiege whole planets.

I agree that critiquing capitalist practices/US military has always been part of Star Wars' thing, but just calling it neoliberalism seems wrong to me.

There is also a small part of the galaxy that’s literally ancapistan. Different parts of the galaxy correlate to countries in something based on earth . Naboo was an elective monarchy that was part of the EU basically. Doesn’t mean the EU isn’t neoliberal if they let a monarchy in, but yes it did happen a long time ago...allegedly.

They were doing private-public partnerships and MICs to make the clone army.

Tbf the republic/empire were directly based on American decay and imperialism. Maybe “neoliberal” isn’t the exactly right term but they aren’t 100% wrong

Stop calling everything you don’t like neoliberal.

Every time I see someone say this, it's always some ignorant radlib.

Every time i see someone call everything neoliberal, it's always a Bernie person who learned about the word 6 days ago

Edit: and every time i see someone use radlib it's always someone terminally online. I never heard the word in real-life. Ever. "Revisionist" and straight "lib" are usual go to insults, never radlib.

It might be because radlibs are an online phenomenon?

When I see the word I just think of psychotic libs on Twitter. I've never seen that flavor of insanity anywhere else, which is why I refuse to use that site.

I don't think you need to analyze star wars economic lore to call it neoliberal. The prequels were intended as a critique of bush era America with some added roman republic influences.

sure, but I don't see the neoliberal side of it

there was a lot about manufactured conflicts and the expansion of executive power in response to perceived security threats, but I don't recall anything in star wars about austerity and privatization

when libs are getting mad enough about people meming succdem man that they are posting "nono don't look over there, here's Mrs Obama shopped with pop culture you like" the op is a pretty good dunk and I'm not gonna question it with "um actually the starwars film cannon didn't explicitly show a neoliberal policy passing in the senate, just all of the material conditions of neoliberalism being present"

I like everything about the post except for the word neoliberal

it's not worth dunking on, but it does bug me enough to whine a little about it on here at least
