I entirely blame the stupid political compass for shit like this. There's even a part in the explanation where the authors claim Hitler and Stalin would have gotten along in a conversation about politics so long as they didn't mention economics. Yes, Hitler and Stalin, two enemy commanders in the largest war ever, got along in regards to politics.

Hitler would have jumped at the opportunity to ally with Churchill and FDR against Stalin. Anti-communism permeates everything Hitler wrote and said.

I mean, even setting aside the absurdity of the claim, I'm just, like ...

Other than that, Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?

There's WW2 documentaries where they make Stalin out ti be this guy with a boy crush on Hitler when they made their little agreement to not go to war with each other. Who then gets all dumbfounded and depressed when Hitler attacks Russia anyway. They then gloss over all Russias exploits in the war and make it sound like they were getting their asses kicked the entire war.

Literally they looked at a political compass, that's literally all of the knowledge informing that opinion. Maybe they read a comment about "horseshoe theory" one time. These people are politically illiterate.

They're either politically illiterate or they're deliberately attempting to make right-wing libertarian views more attractive (my real suspicion)

        I found it here:

"If you could get Hitler and Stalin to sit down together and avoid economics, the two diehard authoritarians would find plenty of common ground."

I love WW2 docs where they make Stalin out to be this naive man with a boy crush in Hitler who gets all depressed and dumbfounded when Hitler broker their little pwomise to not go to war.
