Wasn't exactly unexpected. The three factions are, legion, BOS holdout and more militaristic NCR from what I could tell. All varying flavours of fash.

Yep, but all of them are clearly depicted as imperialistic (yes even bos, theyre just temporarily embarrassed) self-serving entities who are driven mostly by the interest of their ruling class. Well, some are obviously worse than the other, but New Vegas definitely tries to not lionize any of them.

Frontier on the other hand, just see "woah cool soldiers/romans/power armor" and didn't go beyond that, besides the usual surface characteristics of them anyway.

This is what I was referring to. Checked out their site when it came out and looked at some of the trailers and it seemed like hot garbage.

There's also Mr. House, who lords over New Vegas and the casinos. He's got more of a right libertarian flavor to him, ideologically. There is, however, an ending where

      partial spoiler

      all of those factions lose.

I was talking about "The Frontier" specifically. I'd argue that NCR in NV are pretty lib, in the current american sense. The Frontier took BOS and made them the heroes (and gave them a crusader theme, subtle), NCR and made them more militaristic and Legion and made that the three factions.
