not off the top of my head but the wikipedia page for the crisis is pretty thorough for an intro, also it's a pretty frequent topic on trillbilly

I don't have a book recommendation but I just looked through old episodes of Mike Duncan's podcast "The History of Rome" and I think I found the episode where he starts discussing that period. According to Wikipedia the assassination of Emperor Severus Alexander is what kicked off the crisis so this seems like a good place to dive in:

Episode 106 Barbarian at the Gate

After bungling a campaign in the east, Alexander headed to the Rhine where he was assassinated by Maximinius Thrax in 235 AD.

I listened to that whole series once the pandemic started. It’s crazy how much late Rome mirrors the last 20 years or so

Yeah it's been a little unnerving listening to the series right now. I'll be following along with an episode and then suddenly it'll dawn on me that we're basically doing the exact same things.

Forgot to add this to the other post, but I came across an episode index someone at the University of Wisconsin created for the podcast. It breaks down the episodes by century. Might be helpful in the future if you come across a specific era that interests you:

          Anyway, hope that helps!
