I've put about 10 hours in so far and from the macro-routefinding to the micro-route finding, considering what supplies you want to bring / have to bring, the wear and tear of things and such it does a really good job around gamifying the experience of bicycle touring, even if it doesn't actually have bicycles.
even if it doesn't actually have bicycles.
The bikes are fun - especially if you're playing online because most people tend to drop recharging stations along routes so even if the road isn't rebuilt, you can usually zoom & jump across everything but the mountainous terrains.
Honestly the game hits a really nice mid-point where you have all the equipment necessary for traversal and it becomes super fun just running around doing deliveries. I spent the longest time like 30hrs into the game just going around with the speed power armor, the level 3 stabilizers (Max out Mountain Knot City's deliveries), and the floating carrier combined with the sticky gun. Running full sprint off a level 3 ramp someone plopped down and launching into the air before basically gliding down with the stabilizers, jumping on the floating carrier and riding to a lookout point, grabbing packages with the sticky gun. Finding a hot spring and playing BB's theme to cheer the lad up with the harmonica before continuing my journey. GOOD GAME.
It's definitely not for everyone, but I really enjoyed that game. Looking forward to trying the sequel in the distant future.
I don't think it's that distant considering it already has a release window of "2024/2025".
Plus a year to come out of PC and another year or so for it to get patched up nicely
But yep, it'll be here soonish!
