Maybe having enough money to live close to work is the actual thing here. Meaning having money and affording things that keep one alive

The thing is, a one hour commute will add 10 hours to your work week, for no pay. In addition to the cost of fuel and auto maintenance or transit. Long commutes are trash.

Pretty much spot on. Though I do get a lot more reading done with a long train commute than I do with no commute. Not sure why I struggle to read as much when I'm just sitting at home.

A 45 minute - 1 hour commute each way fuckin drained me before corona hit. I can't go back.

The past five years I've had a job where I would literally wake up twenty minutes before I had to be there and still make it on time. It's pretty nice to have an eight hour workday that's actually eight hours, instead of one where it's really ten.

But of course, if we were serious about getting people to work faster to improve their quality of life the way we'd do it is a massive investment in public housing (so people can live in more central locations) and transit (to get cars off the road) neither of which will ever happen in America.

Commute time correlates more strongly with happiness than home size does, actually. So, although money is essential to either, commutes are, in fact, important per se.

Who the fuck told him that? And why did he think this was a good way to deliver his point? Just say we need better public transit which everybody already agrees with, you dork.

Actually the strongest correlation is with ticking that box on the survey. If we just break people's pencils so they can't complete it that will do the most to make them happy.

Can't go spending money on the NYC metro or the poors might get uppity and think they deserve nice things.
