Comparing damage to the Empire State Building from a previous plane crash and the plane hitting the towers, we should be able to see that a plane alone cannot take down a building.

It was demolished because it contained too much evidence and taking it out would be the perfect way to ensure no one could figure out what happened. And it wasn’t kept a secret.
