I can have empathy for the people in the situation who, when everything is chaos and confusion and not knowing, where terrified while at the same time finding it funny that in some random corner of the chaos a person was just walking around with the speaker's podium, kicking it in Pelosi's chair, and standing around for photo ops in a horned helmet and cape.

I would have an entirely different opinion if the majority of those folks were armed to the teeth, taking and holding facilities, finding people, capturing people and/or killing them. Fortunately that wasn't the case, very few fatal acts of violence seemed to have happened and only small groups working independently from each other seemed to have had any plans/capability of doing anything horrible and didn't seem to succeed in those plans.
