I loved Young Stalin, and it did more to make me sympathetic towards Stalin than anything else I’ve read before or since.

The stories of his amazing desperado bank robberies are absolutely thrilling, and combine with his repeated escapes from Siberian exile to make him out to be a larger than life figure who is by turns heroic and villainous.

I am not completely sold on the book’s authenticity, but I really see no reason that I should trust Montefiore any less than I trust “bigbrowncommie69”

Edit: should note that I was still just a lib when I read Young Stalin, so it was a long time ago. I remember my main takeaway being that I didn’t realize Stalin was such a badass, and it sent my down a rabbit hole of Soviet history.

Listed in the book under their Reddit username, because Epstein liked to cultivate intellectuals as well as powerful people.
