I feel like the standard justification is that the tribe that Florida State's mascot is named after, where as far as I can remember the use of that chant at sports games started, said actually it's cool to use their likeness as a mascot, even the war paint and headdress some white kid always wears to events.
I don't know how you can say one minuscule modern tribe who you stole everything from giving you the go-ahead makes it fine, but really that's all anyone needs to assuage their guilt and cover their ears to all the others who say the nicknames are hurtful.
Less importantly I also just think it's boring that the remaining indigenous nicknamed sports teams all use the same chant (fuck you, Deion Sanders).
I know a lot of chiefs fans and I think the vast majority know the whole thing is racist and are either completely apethetic or just are outwardly racist. The justification is flimsy by all measures and the truth is that most are just racist or they don't care.
