Maybe it wasn't a good idea to shift agricultural production to untested methods on a mass scale before doing proper testing. Maybe they should have just kept providing the farmers with the tools they needed to continue producing they way they had been while using smaller scale farms to test his theories.

Maybe they should have based their "science" on fucking evidence and peer-reviewed consensus including what all the people from the outside was doing instead of trusting in one snake-oil seller just because he was from working class and the whole "genetics" didn't fit communism perfectly.

Like for fuck sakes Argentina, fucking Argentina, was doing maize genetics in 1912. Lysenko did his shit in 1938.

His theories were just repackaged Lamarckism tho. Regardless of the scale it wouldn't have worked.

I know, it's all bunk. They would have knows that if they fucking tested it first instead of just going "yes. All crops are communist"

The really fucked up thing is that they tried to make it work and then Mao adopted it leading to even more suffering that could have been easily avoided if they just fucking tested it.

At least China seems to have learned their lesson and does trial runs and actual science now.
