Never heard this about the military.

Its basically the reason given for having all the guns of all the types (from all of the youtube adds about concealed carry/home defense with firearms I keep getting). If somebody is robbing you at gunpoint a cop isn't there to keep you from being robbed/shot so you've got to have a gun to "protect" yourself. As far a military goes, its the "fight them over there so that we don't have to fight them over here" crowd. Military won't protect you, personally, from a home invasion or having your car stolen, so the military is bad at protecting your individual private property.
