Why do people fetishize socialist leaders? Communism is about the people, not figureheads.
At some level I think this is unavoidable.

That is a fundamental limitation of our brains. I'm not sure how that's up for dispute.
I don't think that necessitates hero worship, but I do think that is an influence for why hero worship is common. The hero is a simple abstraction.
