It’s just a matter of efficiency, since when bugs are being marketed as a food source it’s usually presented as something to give to the backwards third world starving poors. Basically you get more calories/sq meter out of growing vegetables than from feeding and raising chickens. There’s also a more nebulous moral argument about how raising chickens for food makes them a commodity and open to more abuse, etc.

Basically we’re already overproducing food but a lot of that goes to cows or in the trash instead of to people who need food because muh invisible hand.

Well if they have enough space and aren't just bred and produced to be killed and enjoy life "kind of", it sounds better than industry farming. Subsistence will only be possible after this system dies, though.

but what if the bugs were tasty and 1000% more energy-calorie efficient

I’m all for bugs if we can make them not look like bugs.

        Bring on the McBuggets.

Also their meat probably needs a name like poultry or beef to abstract from what you’re actually eating.

Just go with secare. It sounds fancy and, like the other ones, has roots with the actual word.

Yeah, I've had grasshopper tacos and ngl they were disgusting. It was like eating only shrimp shells without any of the good parts. If there is a way to process them into something edible I'm down to try it again but it was basically inedible to me.
