  • As someone who's worked as a sysadmin, banning you for this would be an unbelievable level of shittiness of the parts of the admins, if anything you should be sending them a bill for your unpaid QA hours. I kid, I kid of course. But seriously, endusers are constantly doing stupid shit that breaks sites (And then do it again, and again, and again, after each time its fixed because "it didn't work the first time" ) and never file a bug report or probably even know what a "bug report" is. I seriously probably woulda cried tears of joy if I came across someone not only giving a heads up of even "hey, this thing I tried to do didn't work and now your site is broken", but also being able to explain exactly what they were doing and how it caused it to break.

  • re-read my comment. I'm saying that if your political philosophy begins with "There is a country USA, and a priori it is inherently bad due to its being America", its obviously utter shit. It should be something like "[...] is bad" Imperialism causes [...]", "America is doing Imperialism", "Thus America is bad" Personally, I've been trying to restrict making value-judgements to actions rather than people/things, so I'd say it as "America doing imperialism is bad".

America has also done anti-imperialist actions as well, (Suez Canal crisis for the rare example). If your ideology casts one group as purely evil villains that can do no good, its probably about as mature as a Superhero movie.

  • seriously. I start to feel guilty if I play a video game more than an hour or two and think of all the constructive shit I could have done in that same time period instead. Probably no coincidence then that the only game I've put a serious number of hours into lately is a rhythm game that hooks up to your e-drum kit and basically teaches you how to drum. Apparently I've put almost 700 hours into it over the past two years or so, but considering I had never sat down at a drumkit before, and now I can ace every single song except for a few of the highest-difficulty ones, I feel like it wasn't time wasted.

  • In the states, the Democrats had gone through a hellish decade or two, only holding the Presidency during Carter's single (arguably disastrous) term, not to mention the absolutely catastrophic campaigns of McGovern, Mondale, and Dukakis, who together managed to carry a combined 12 states total across their 3 elections. Come the 1992 election, a significant portion of the Democratic Party adopt a "If you can't beat em, Join em" attitude, at economically/fiscally. Thus is born the "Third Wave" Democrats, who are socially the progressive party, but adopt many of the same neoliberal economic policies as the Republican party.

  • The real killer though the batteries to store this energy (since we aren’t generating a steady stream of it) which require cobalt, lithium, and manganese. Wind turbines are even worse.

There's alternatives. For example, there's always thermal solar plants and even if the tech isn't all the way here yet, its probably because hardly any research has gone into it since its viewed as less efficient.

And lots of indigenous communities would jump for the chance to open a valuable rare mineral mine that would generate a ton of wealth for their community. A lot of posts here keep bringing up indigenous communities in what I feel is a really disingenuous and tokenizing way, as if they all hm together in common other that having been historically fucked with by colonizers at practically ever opportunity given. Going forward I'd hope that wouldn't continue, its not like a mine automatically has to be built by some outsider who plan on screwing over the community living for their the profit of their investors.
