For real though, be safe out there libs. Bring a blanket and warm clothes in your car, even if you’re only going a few miles. And you can’t brake on ice. Give plenty of extra room. Idk how the south is, but Texas drivers are terrible in winter conditions

You joke but there are people yelling at our mayor on twitter about how we would have power if we were on 100% oil & gas power generation lol

They died because they didn't go to a shelter therefore they died because socialistic policies failed them

There are a lot of stray and outdoor cats up north, and they make it through worse winters if that makes you feel any better...

Its a bit silly to assume that a day of cold weather is doom for my dumb stray, isn’t it?

Nah, that just means you’re a caring person and it’s a good thing. But I would assume the cat’ll be fine, even though I completely understand worrying when the normal routine is disrupted.

That sucks about the diesel too (although if it gets you out of work maybe not lol). I was considering a nice manual diesel VW car, but now I’m not sure how practical it is in Ohio, where my car doors routinely freeze shut. Hmmm

We had some black outs last night. Expecting more tonight. And of course my heater decided to crap out right in time for record low temps :angery:

About once every 3-4 years, although this time it is particularly cold, about 17 F at the moment

It hasn’t been this cold since 89. We get sleet every few years but a proper freeze like this is usually a once in a decade or so phenomenon, at least in my corner of Texas. It’s a big state so someone else might have a different experience

Crashes happen because people still speed even if the roads are slippery. If the conditions are bad you should be going under the speed limit and you shouldn't go over 70kmh/45mph ever. Seriously, drive slowly and you'll significantly reduce the chance of losing control of your car.

Probably also a good idea to watch a couple videos about how to correct for losing front/rear traction of you vehicle - pumping the brakes could make your situation worse.

Drive slowly comrades. You can not maintain control of your vehicle in icy conditions if you exceed 45mph (bridges are the worst for this). I'm guessing no one has winter tires so it's going to be even worse. Drive as slow as you need to to maintain control of you car.
