The Manhattan District Attorney's Office on Tuesday dropped the misdemeanor criminal charge against Amy Cooper, the White woman who called police on a Black man in Central Park last May, after she completed education and therapy classes on racial equity.
i mean the entire situation is absurd. she was of course being racist, but her racism consisted of utilizing the "justice" system in the way whites have always used it, and now that same system has produced tools to to reform its subjects to avert any reform of itself.
She knew what she did was wrong.
I'm not entirely sold on this perspective. I think there's a certain amount of willing obliviousness in white wielders of state violence, and I think education work can help dispel that. I don't think a state-mandated racial bias training is gonna provide that though, since it's hardly going to admit to the real reason calling the cops on people is bad.
