The ideal life is living in a Communist society in which we, the workers, control the means of production, exchange and distribution, where we gain a 100% of the value of what we produce, in which there is no state to control us and there is no money to enforce unfair power relations.

Preach. Speaks to peoples lack of imagination. Capitalism is a force of nature; no change is possible.

You might get drafted for Vietnam in that timeline, but, you could always join the peace corps and fuck around in Honduras or something.

Well—and it ain't me I'm talking about here—if you're a millionaire's or a senator's son, you don't have to be one of those unfortunate ones.

ah yes 1947 when you definitely wouldn't be denied all these things if you were born in the wrong group in America. Fucking hell this isn't even the story for middle-class white women seriously fuck this sentiment.

and fuck thinking that some material security is more valuable than striving for a better world, living this 'ideal life' was living a morally and socially bankrupt one

The other day I found out in Switzerland women only got the right to vote in 1971. Wild

      *Federally.

Swiss women still couldn't vote at the canton level in 8 of 25 cantons in 1971, and didn't get the right to vote at the canton level everywhere until Nov 1990 (by federal court order). Switzerland is outrageously conservative.

I always say if I was white (and probably a man even), I'd love to be a young adult in the 60s or 70s in America. For the purer drugs alone.

Used to work for a municipal government as part of a citywide literacy initiative. The number is hard to find, but the one quoted to me back then is Americans have a functional literacy rate of 87%. Our city was around a 65%.

All illiterate people were completely failed by our education systems, more so the ones who ended up graduating high school or even college in some cases.

The ideal life is being born in 1890 and killing a European king with your anarchist friends.
