Thank you Sajam and the Illuminati boomers for negging those Japanese salarymen until they caved on netcode.

Hopefully Strive sells like crazy and every other fighting game from now on has rollback. I want a USF4 rerelease with crossplay and rollback.

It's so good. Played with friends on other continents for hours throughout the beta and had no problems with lag. Hopefully this is the future of the genre.

I’ve always wanted to play fighting games, but every time I’ve tried to get into the genre I’ve given up. It just seems so goddamn impenetrable.

I just discovered Tough Love Arena and Fantasy Strike though, so now I’m gonna try to stick with it and learn the basics before I move on to harder games. Strive looks like fun, and I heard they’re trying to make it more accessible to new players, so maybe there’s hope for me yet.

Fighting games are 90% just playing a shit-ton. Pick a character, look up their bread-n-butter combos, and just play a ton of matches. If you get blown up by something repeatedly, ask other people who play your character what they do to counter it. Knowing what is punishable and how you can punish is helpful. But you really just need to play.

Strive is a definitely a little easier to wrap your head around than previous GG games. Start with some of the more simple characters (Ky, Sol, Giovanna are great in Strive) and work your way up. It's honestly just a matter of putting in the work, and playing against people. A lot of new players start by sitting in training mode and trying to learn combos, but combos will only get you so far when you don't know how to actually use them in a match against a real person. Play a lot, ask a lot of questions, and you'll improve way faster than you'd think.

I'll probably post again around Strive launch and see if we can get some Chapo lobbies going, though I'll be playing on PC. They're supposedly working on crossplay for post-launch though.

I feel you. I borrowed my dad's PS4 to play the beta because I couldn't wait, and don't have much of a reason to buy a console myself.

pm is just melee but you have to play vs every character like a melee low tier. when I play pm I feel like I just have to beat gimmicks with gimmicks

but pm is still pog because it’s like melee :meow-coffee:

also learning that many matchups is so hard with the depth there is in each mu.

I finally decided to pick up Eddie in Strive a bit and he's a blast. Makes up for me not liking my main (Faust) as much in this game as I did back in Accent Core.

Yea seeing someone play Faust at the arcade was what made me go I gotta try this.

I also love Venom, Bridget, Potemkin, and Zappa

Potemkin is absolutely terrifying in Strive. Still holding out for Bridget's return. Worst thing about the genre is how many great characters get left behind over the years.

I don't have anything that would run it but it seems like they fixed the weird way particles interacted with camera motion in xrd so i'm pretty happy

Tangential: I just considered that the stage transitions probably change up how corner pressure works.

I had apprehensions about wallbreaks but they're actually pretty cool. You can choose to let them drop and keep up pressure, or push through for big damage/meter gain. It seems like you're still in advantage after a transition because you land on your feet and your opponent lands in a knockdown state so you have oki options, even if they're somewhat limited.
