Democrats continue to have the worst political instincts imaginable.

How long before someone on Twitter blames his popularity in misogyny or racism?

Their political instincts are dogshit if you presuppose that democrats are in the game to help the common people. On the other hand if you assume they are a controlled opposition, a lightning rod to divert popular engagement in politics into impotent civility and culture war bullshit, then all they do makes perfect sense.

The US is in the middle of a pandemic that has killed half a million Americans. The oligarchs has made obscene amounts of money while millions of families can no longer pay their rent and "essential workers" are being sacrificiced on the altar of The Economy. — And people are not rioting in the streets. People are not out there demanding healthcare or a social safety net or economic justice. I would say the democrats and the bourgeoisie they serve are winning bigly.

Except the past year has been one of the most active for mass walkouts and wildcat strikes in decades.

It would be surprising if there was no reactions at all but overall the prospects of substantial material improvements are grim.

The democratic party is a black hole that sucks up political energy.

Yeah, but they're failing. Strikes are happening. Workers are forming unions. This is the rebirth of American labor, and when it starts growing teeth, it won't even know what the Democrats are.

I hope you're right. Lots of stuff is happening that hasn't happened in a long time.

My point is more about the role of the democratic party. They are not the ones pushing for greater labour power and the energy many working class people puts into it is mostly wasted.

Exactly. This new generation of activists are being birthed in the new labor struggle. Forming new unions and taking wildcat action to spite the AFL-CIO. The democrats haven't done anything for them yet. If they continue to not do anything, that labor power will be forced to more radical action.

If the Dems really wanted to act as a relief valve, they'd do $25/hr minimum wage and M4A today. They won't though. They're already pushing this crippled beast to it's limits. They can't maintain their infinite growth rates without taking more from us.

This is what I believe they are as well. That's a big reason why I'm not expecting any relief from Biden whatsoever outside of symbolic fuck off gestures like candle lighting.

Genuinely curious why people, especially here of all places, are still playing along with this framing
