Ironically devil literally means "distorter" (it comes from diavolos which means exactly that in Greek) and the whole point is that he lies all the fucking time but for some reason in pop culture and movies demons are always bound by very strict bureaucracy and contracts.
I kinda have this story running around in my head that the judeo Christian god is the real devil that coup the other gods and Satan was just a scapegoat for all his failures
