too many good ideas and pokemon to come out in later generations for me to take a '151 only' idea seriously.
Honestly, I feel you can prune some out of Gen 1 (do we really need Voltorb? What the fuck is Tangela? Why is Lickitung?) and add a bunch of the good ones from later, and have a core of maybe like 200-250 really solid pokemon
tangela is a swamp monster. drawing on medusa as a reference point.
lickitung is a mix of a lungless salamander and a yokai. honestly most of the pokemon have references to yokai, so to what is stupid or illogical to us makes more sense if you know this background.

I actually agree, but it bothers me when people don't apply this same logic to the later gens. Like, a lot of peoples' only response to Gen 5 is "lol ice cream cone", and that feels like a double standard
All of those are good, we need to cut Seel. It's so bad that nobody even remembers it for these Bad Pokemon lists.
It only just occurred to me that the feminine-looking pokemon that happens to be 90% male, is also the trans flag colors
