Every friend that recomends a show tells me “the first season is really slow but then it gets good”

Just want someone to tell me “watch this, is so fucking good”

Hell on Wheels starts with the main guy shooting a dude in a confessional booth and only ramps up from there.

AoT suffers some serious pacing issues in the middle but the story has gone so fucking wild that it's worth suffering through to get to the good shit.

Is Schitt's Creek worth watching? I watched a bit and then quit once I got to the part where it frames the father as a job provider who "helps" people by "providing" jobs for them.

There is a tinge of that, but you can also look at it as the family being bad people due to immense wealth and privilege. Being forced into the same circumstances that the majority of people are born with gives them the opportunity to learn the value of community and grow as people. It definitely has mixed messages on that however, and the main reason to watch it would be if you like the characters and find it funny.

I think that's a fair point. I feel that it definitely falls in the not for me category.

Yeah, would have been nice if they stuck in Schitts Creek and fixed it up instead of becoming lardlord gentrifiers and moving back to NY.

I've heard people say it is- citing season 1 as wonky- but when pressed for when it gets 'good' remain silent.

Common positive reviews I've seen say "it's great to see gay characters not experience prejudice and just have fun". Yeah it's a huge coincidence they're millionaire characters who are afforded that common decency. (yes I know they're ex millionaires- but once you get that status I think it's pretty hard to lose the social status)

I think it's a pretty good show, but yeah it's probably going to take a decent amount of episodes for you to fully buy into these characters and for them to have some growth and change.

There are some really feel-good and sweet moments, and a huge part of it is them learning to not be completely shit people anymore (with it basically being text that they were shitty because they were rich) and embracing people from different class backgrounds and finding a community.

There's a episode where some of their former friends from when they were wealthy visit them in their new town and they're being huge dicks, and Eugene Levy eventually tells them to fuck off and defends the people of the town saying they helped them when they had so little to give to start with, etc.

There's some neolib cringe in there, as you would expect from any mainstream TV show.

I always wanted to watch the sopranos but the film style was always too antiquated in the early seasons. Not sure where to jump in if I wanted to avoid that.
