I used to work in a supermarket, and I would steal things constantly
About a year in they put me in charge of sorting through the reduced/waste items, so I could do things like take home seventeen jars of vegan pesto because the jars had incorrect allergy information, or $40 bottles of perfume that we weren't allowed to reduce
I would always reduce huge cases of beer from ~$20 or whatever they cost down to like $3 too, on my last day I left with about $100 worth of beer for maybe a tenth of that
Minus feeding yourself and your potential alcohol problem, I think that would be depressing knowing all that shit would just go to waste otherwise.
No alcohol problem here, most of it went to friends on a camping trip - but yeah, the loss of food was ridiculous, that's why everyone who did the disposals always ended up stealing things or giving things to other members of staff
