We need to stop using chapo. The podcast is bad. The discourse here - flawed and sus as it can be at times - has moved so far beyond where those podcast hosts are at. They will be flirting with class reductionism and getting angry at NYT columnists for the next 20 years and become increasingly irrelevant to a left that is, dare I say, slowly getting... better?

They should have been dead to us after they basically ignored the BLM protests.

What the fuck does this even mean? ChapoChat is a silly lefty shitpost website where people occasionally effort post about how you shouldn't mock people who are obsessed with cartoon bunnies. You think this website is going to start a revolution or something? Lol

Sorry, but at least the podcast is actually entertaining. ChapoChat is mostly just annoying.

The goal isn't to have 10 perfect leftists totally isolated from society. The goal is to figure out how to take people who aren't leftists right now and turn them into leftists.

Them shitting on "prestigious" journalists is probably the best thing they do, but I agree overall. The community has come a long way and "Chapo Trap House Fan Community" has probably covered about 2% of what we do or talk about for a while.

I remember multiple episodes about the protest what are you talking about?

They not only talked about the protests plenty -- at least some of them talked about how they went out and joined them.

A big chunk of people who say the podcast blows don't listen to it. They get their impressions of it by essentially playing telephone, which produces bad takes like the above and other mischaracterizations. As long as someone's even close to on our side, we should be accurate about what they're saying before we start shitting on them for it.

For example, Matt talked on his twitch stream multiple times about having just come from one protest or another. This line of critique of the show has never been a good one.

i swear 99% of the people who shit on the podcast know basically nothing about them lol except that they don't conform to their exact kind of leftism

The podcast does have some bad takes, or more correctly it has some good initial analysis and follows it up with shitty praxis recommendations. Like the latest episode where they're like "the Senate stuff doesn't mean anything anymore, ignore it". Yeah, it's pointless, which is exactly why we should be throwing rocks at it.

That said, most of what people here think about the pod is just Amber rolling a 1 on her random leftist take table.

They have some bad takes, as do we all (except me obviously). It's fine to criticize them over that, but let's criticize what they actually say or don't say. We really shouldn't be inventing reasons to be mad at each other.

Half of the early episodes are them laughing at people who accused them of being fash lol

It's been going on for years.

I think it's coming from the same place as "why aren't they using their platform to organize"? They're just a comedy podcast. I think part of why Virgil left is because he was the only one who wanted to own up to that responsibility.

They did a ton of organizing for Bernie. But yeah it's a podcast about dunking on libs, it's not some vanguard of the American left.

didn't they have entire episodes about the BLM protests? and also some of them literally livestreamed themselves at one of the protests lol.

As I recall it they were radio silent as things were ramping up, as though there were waiting to gage which way the wind was blowing before eventually doing some real milk toast episodes on it once it was too culturally important to ignore.

I remember the subreddit freaking out about them being radio silent, which lasted for like 3-4 days until their next episode came out.
